Kay Appleby, is a remarkable musician who has developed perfect pitch to a fine art, being able to play what she hears as she hears it. Listening to train whistles, birds singing, bells ringing, etc., she can tell you what notes are being heard. You can count on the fact, "if she has heard any song a few times she can play it for you in any key".
Kay studied piano for 23 years, beginning at the age of three, and has taught many others to play better and enjoy it more. Through the years she has accompanied school choirs, gospel singing groups, performed on television shows, in country music shows, piano lounges and restaurants, dinner theatres, and has served as church pianist and organist with several churches.
Kay is a very emotional musician, as well. The feeling she puts into her music will both impress you and speak to your inner being at the same time. Her real love is a grand piano, and if you have the pleasure to hear her play songs like ‘When Sunny Get’s Blue’, ‘Sentimental Journey’, and ‘Georgia on My Mind’ on a grand, I am sure you will be impressed. Behr, Gil, and John, all agree, "even if you mess up really bad Kay will make everything come out alright”.
Kay also adds some tasteful and pleasing vocal harmonies to many of the songs of "A TOUCH of BRASS",and on occasion may be enticed to sing a song herself. She usually says, "I would rather just play the piano and let those two ' Leo's ' have center stage".
